About Dr. Rick Carlson | Dental Profit Advisor
Meet Dr. Rick Carlson: practicing dentist, former top-10% producer, and UF dental school instructor now coaching dentists on profitability and practice management.
“Throughout my own career, I always wished I’d had a mentor who understood both excellent clinical dentistry and successful practice management, someone I could call with practical, real-world questions. I found great clinicians, and I found solid practice-management organizations, but many of them relied on standardized programs that weren’t built around any one practice’s actual situation.
I wanted to build something different: coaching that doesn’t just hand you ideas, but helps you implement them and follows through until you get real results.
I built my own practice from a single-dentist office into a highly productive multi-doctor practice, ranking in the top 10% nationally for general dentistry production, before selling it to one of my associates in 2022.
After a one-year transition period, I started developing these coaching programs, and I’m now working with a small number of practices each year so I can give each one the attention it deserves.”

What a Great Dental Coach Does
A great dental coach:
- Listens carefully and helps you find practical solutions
- Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability
- Strengthens your team’s communication, accountability, and performance
- Helps increase case acceptance and patient satisfaction
- Teaches clinical and business techniques that produce measurable results
- Builds both immediate action plans and long-term strategy
- Is available when you actually need guidance, not just at scheduled meetings
- Measures success by your success, not by collecting a monthly fee
Every top athlete, business leader, and professional has relied on a coach, even Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian in history. An experienced coach sees what’s hard to see from the inside.
A great dental coach evaluates every part of your practice, clinical and business, and helps you become more productive, more profitable, and less stressed. A great coach doesn’t cost you money; they help you make it. The right coaching should generate more additional profit than it costs.
